Issues on Monetary Theory and Policy –
Proceedings of a Colloquium in Honour of Wolfgang Gebauer

Fundamental issues on the nature of money, central banking and interest rates have been at the center of Professor Dr. Wolfgang Gebauer´s thinking and working in the field of monetary economics. He started his career at Deutsche Bundesbank and the European Comission before joining the Goethe-University in Frankfurt, Germany as full professor of Economics, Money and Banking.

At the end of Professor Dr. Wolfgang Gebauer´s university career many of his friends, colleagues and scholars prepared a special farewell colloquium on May 25, 2004 in Frankfurt, bringing together fundamental and applied views of today´s monetary economics. Since some of the ideas presented are new and others give an interesting insight into the current economic discussion, the organizers decided to collect them in this book.

It contains thoughts about the work of Wolfgang Gebauer as well as new research contributions presented through the farewell colloquium. The contribution´s topics range from the role of information as a basic input in market evaluation, the evolution of paradigms on the implementation of monetary policy, the relationship between monetary policy strategy and the transmission mechanism, European monetary integration and its challenges as well as financial aspects of central bank independence and price stability.
